A 12-Year-Old's Gaming Magazine
Article by Toby Jones
Welcome to Gamer's Edge, a video game magazine created by yours truly at the age of twelve. It was short-lived publication, lasting only about two pages of one issue. I came across this (and some other treats I'll share in the future) while digging for Gex drawings, and I found it to be an unbelievably embarrassing piece of my past that's too hilarious to keep to myself. Let's start with the cover.
A kind of successful attempt to replicate the aesthetic of 90s gaming magazines for a pre-teen, I think. As you can see the cover feature is a "massive 2-page review" or Metal Gear Solid, but it also touts articles about Resident Evil 2, South Park, and Crash Bandicoot 3. The two things that stick out to me most here are the bizarre triangle next to the logo and the jaw-droppingly incoherent RE2 illustration on the bottom left.
This page reads as follows:
Utterly baffling phrases like "butt-bubbling" aside, this actually turned out to be a completely accurate prediction of how the next console generation would go. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my proposed PS2 and "N2000" designs.
Text:
It looks like I got bored right about here. Between referring to stealth as a new genre and claiming that sneaking past a guard somehow fulfills a gamer's innate desire to play a movie, I don't know what I can really say about this review. I have no idea what I was talking about. "Metal Gear Espionage"?
Not bored enough to keep me from skipping to the ratings, though!
Ah yes, no video game review would be complete without a slew of meaningless numbers. I wonder how many others created hand-made game magazines like this when they were younger.

What I'm Thinking: A Starting Word to Make You Think
"NEW SYSTEM DEBATE"
Just face it. It's happening again. You know the drill. Theres new technology and all the companies are rushing to show off their new hardware. Let's go back to late 98. Just like with saturn, Sega showed off it's stuff first and makes everyone all poop in their pampers. Then comes big ol' Sony to ruin Sega's party. PS2 is here, with butt-bubbling specs. Soon, nintendo will come with better specs. but Sony will still win. history is repeating itself.

Metal Gear Solid
Well, it's a new genre. And metal gear defines it. In my opinion, Goldeneye fans will eat this one up.
Metal Gear Espionage
The main point of this game is the espionage element. It gives the FEEling of actually sneaking past guards. This fills a gamer's deepest desire because of the true feeling of playing a movie. Like, in the beginning, the beginning credits go by as you play! The voice acting is a blast, too. You'll forget the corn of resident evil!
